Kina Barrens at the Mokohinau Islands. April 2019
Large rocky barrens devoid of kelp, these regions use to be covered in kelp & seaweeds which have been devoured by an exploding sea urchin population, North side of Trig rock which is a sheltered bay and it seems was almost entirely bare rock and sea urchins. A survey in 1988 showed this area to be a shallow weed zone.
