Starry night
_D8A3541.jpg
Unusual shaped rocky pinnacle under moonlight (Broken Islands, off Great Barrier island, Hauraki Gulf, New Zealand). The bright light on the island is Wellington Head lighthouse. I spent over an hour trying all sorts of ways with torch and flash to subtly light the rocky pinnacle. Eventually I found by shining a torch on to my white inflatable boat, which was anchored just out of view of the camera, reflected a nice even light. The sea looks calm under a long exposure, but there was a 1/2 metre swell and occasional larger waves. One of which which roared out of the darkness and nearly took me and my tripod / camera into the sea. I had to madley scramble onto a higher rocky ledge to avoid a foaming white wave which still caught my lower legs. A little too much excitement for a lone photographer on a small isolated rock at 10pm in the evening. (I was wearing a lifejacket!)
